- ➤ Today, 10-year-old William Todd is hosting Hunt Strong— a fundraiser at Wagner Park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.— to support the Kerr County Relief Fund for camps hit by floods. Todd organized the event after hearing how floods affected his camp and others, and local campers will bring their signature treats to help raise funds. KLBK
- ➤ Lubbock Animal Services is calling on community volunteers to foster shelter animals to help reduce crowding — the city also urges pet owners to spay or neuter their pets to address the high stray population. KLBK
- ➤ The Lubbock NAACP Chapter will host its Annual Scholarship Dinner on August 9 at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center with admission set at $55 + sponsorship and advertising opportunities available. The event will feature co-hosts Qualimetra Chatman and Adam Hernandez, keynote speaker Jaa’far Abdullah, live music, a silent auction + recognition of 2025 scholarship winners to support youth scholarships and civil rights programs. - ➤ Amy and Adam Van Liew have opened a Crumbs LBK storefront near Quaker and Woodrow Road in Lubbock where they sell homemade sourdough, cookies, freeze-dried candy, and mixed drinks—expanding from a hobby at local markets. The family business started after their move from Phoenix and now uses the new space—letting them work together as a family. KLBK
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office released body camera video showing the deputy shooting of Texas Tech student Erskin Jenkins, 20, during a disturbance on November 23 at a home on 14th Street—Jenkins had threatened people with a weapon when officers arrived. The footage, provided by Texas Rangers, was released after records were held back to offer more context on the incident. KLBK
- ➤ Police responded to shots fired in central Lubbock on the 3300 block of 58th Street at 12:30 a.m. yesterday, where one person suffered moderate injuries and another was arrested—though the suspect has not yet been identified. KCBD
