ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A resident was injured while exiting his home during a basement fire on the 5200 block of 8th Street Saturday morning — fire crews quickly put out the blaze and he was taken to UMC for treatment.  FOX34

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lubbock's Depot District once was a hub for nightlife with strong dining and music, with key venues like The Depot Restaurant and Beer Garden and The Depot Warehouse — later split into Liquid 2000 and South Beach — that hosted live bands and festive events.  KKAM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lubbock NAACP will host its Annual Scholarship Dinner on August 9 at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center on the Texas Tech University campus, with a reception starting at 6:00 p.m. and dinner at 7:00 p.m. The event's theme 'We Are Not Going Back!' underscores the group's pledge to protect civil rights and support youth through awards, live music, and a silent auction.  FOX34

  • The Lubbock County Detention Center offers Step Up, a voluntary program that uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help inmates see and change harmful thinking patterns and reduce reoffending.   • The Lubbock Heart Walk at Texas Tech will promote heart health by gathering community members on September 20 at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion to raise $125,000 and train people in CPR. The event will feature personal stories and local leaders—such as co-chair Chris Cook and cardiologist Dr. Scott Shurmur—to highlight the impact of heart disease.  KKAM
