BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nordstrom Rack will open its Lubbock store on August 21 with a grand opening celebration at Lubbock’s West End Center (located near West Loop 289 and 19th Street) starting at 8 a.m. Store doors will open at 9 a.m. and shoppers can enter a raffle for a $1,000 gift card.  KLBK

CRIME NEWS

  • Officer James Black III was released from South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital on July 14 after being injured in the June 24 campus shooting at Texas Tech near Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock—he now continues his recovery at home.  Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Joe Trevino Band will perform at the Buddy Holly Center’s Summer Showcase Concert Series on Thursday, July 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Meadows Courtyard — the free event also features live country music and Buddy Holly exhibitions. Guests may bring food but outside drinks will not be allowed after 5:15 p.m.  KLBK
  • The Buddy Holly Center’s Summer Showcase Concert Series will continue Thursday, July 17 with the Joe Trevino Band performing live in the Meadows Courtyard from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the event is free—outside beverages are not allowed after 5:15 p.m.  KCBD

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Since 2015, Lubbock has changed a lot as downtown got new investments and the Loop 88 project entered Phase Three with a Fall 2026 finish expected. A mix of new businesses like H-E-B and Circle K opened while long-time spots such as Hotel Ava, Joyland, Malouf's, and Cinemark closed—marking a decade of economic shifts.  KLBK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ransom Canyon Fire Department installed a new Sam boost system that puts pump controls on the hose nozzle so one firefighter can start fighting a fire without waiting for help. The system was added in December 2024 at a cost of $20,000—its use aims to save time and lives for small, volunteer crews.  KLBK
