  • On Friday, July 25, LIFE, Inc. will host its Annual ADA Celebration at CenterPointe Event Center to mark 35 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The event includes art exhibits, competitions, prizes, community resource booths and live entertainment from Andy Martinez — Dustin Garrett, with tickets at $10 in advance and $15 at the door.  KLBK
  • Lubbock officials and Texas Tech University will host a free Back-2-School Bash on Wednesday, July 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center—over 5,000 K-12 students will get clear backpacks, school supplies, and free haircuts while local groups offer resource support.  KKAM
  • City of Lubbock Animal Services will host two free pet adoption events on July 26—Pets Plus at 6419 University Drive from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and PetSmart on Slide Road from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.  KLBK
  • After his son Crosby drowned in July 2022, Lubbock dad Josh Pruitt started Capes for Crosby to help families face loss and learn about drowning dangers — he said his group will offer support and education; the non-profit will hold its first fundraiser raffle for two putters on August 22 at 6 p.m. — donations will help grow the program.  FOX34
  • Lubbock community members gather today at The Garden Downtown for the Loud for Liyah benefit concert to raise funds for Liyah, who is battling stage-four cancer—tickets cost $10 and gates open at 5:30 p.m.  FOX34

  • Lubbock’s Spirit Halloween stores will open in new pop-up locations this season—one store will be near Office Depot at 2502 50th Street while the former Big Lots location on 4th Street is also set to relaunch. Revised plans include a move at South Plains Mall from the old men’s Dillard’s site and a possible opening at a former Best Buy.  KKAM

CRIME NEWS

  • A Lubbock Grand Jury indicted 30-year-old Christopher Medrano on two counts of indecency and sexual contact with a child after children aged 5 and 9 said he forced them to touch him inappropriately—he is held on a $150,000 bond at the Lubbock County Detention Center.  KCBD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Covenant Northwest Clinic will host its 4th Annual Back-To-School Bash on August 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 611 N Frankfort—offering immunizations, sports physicals, and fun activities like face painting and games for kids.  KKAM
