  • On July 31, Dairy Queen restaurants in Lubbock will take part in Miracle Treat Day—each Blizzard sold donates at least one dollar to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals to support UMC Children's Hospital. The event marks 40 years of the treat and invites local families to help kids by enjoying new flavors.  KFYO
  • 806 Running Girlz is a women's running club in Lubbock that meets every Monday (at various local spots) to help moms, young girls, and women start running; founder Abbie Espinoza said the group uses a Facebook page (for weekly run updates) to share locations and events.  KLBK
  • FosterALife's 20th Annual Hub City Beach Party will be held on Saturday, August 2nd at Depot Patio in Lubbock starting at 6:00 p.m.—the Landsharks will perform at 7:00 p.m. and advance tickets cost $20 as the event raises funds for children in care and marks a 21st anniversary.  KFYO
  • On Saturday, the 100 Black Men of West Texas hosted their 29th annual Charles and Rose Hankson Fishing Derby at Mae Simmons Lake, inviting families to enjoy free fishing and lunch (the state's longest running fishing derby). Organizers said the event helped bring community members and local police together to share resources and enjoy a day outdoors.  FOX34
  • Car enthusiasts gathered on Saturday at Lubbock Christian University during the Caprock Classic Car Show to display classic cars + hot rods and raise funds through entry fees and raffle tickets for local nonprofits.  FOX34
  • Lubbock Animal Services will host its 8th Annual Clear the Shelter Event on August 9 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will offer free adoptions for animals that are spayed, neutered, and current on vaccines — a community effort to reduce the stray animal crisis.  KFYO

  • Lubbock Police say a crash at 3:32 a.m. on Saturday, July 19 at the intersection of 82nd Street and Upland Ave left 24-year-old Michael Glover dead when his motorcycle struck a car driven by 59-year-old Robert Mitchell—who is in serious condition.  KLBK
  • An overnight collision at the intersection of 82nd and Upland left motorcycle rider Michael Glover dead and passenger car driver Robert Mitchell seriously injured — police say speed was a factor.  FOX34

  • Five Lubbock youth track athletes from the Fly 806 club will travel to Savannah on July 22 for the USATF National Junior Track Meet — they will compete in events such as the 100-meter dash, shot put, and long jump.  KLBK
