- ➤ At 7:23 a.m. on Saturday a single vehicle on US 84 North Frontage Road near Mimosa Avenue failed to negotiate a sharp curve, struck a stationary railcar, caught fire, and killed 64-year-old driver Jinmei Gao of Flushing and 18-year-old passenger Jia Jin Wu of Lubbock; authorities said it is unclear if seatbelts were worn. - ➤ Lubbock sorghum farmers report that recent July rains and cool temperatures helped their hail-damaged crops finish pollination and reach the fill stage, and the crop will be harvested in about a month — then taken to an ethanol plant to improve local production. KLBK
