COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chimy’s donated all Thursday profits—marking National Tequila Day—to support flood victims in Kerrville by backing Camp Mystic and the Dick Eastland Fund. The bar was open from 11 a.m. to midnight as Texans rallied to help those in need.  KLBK
  • The City of Lubbock, partnering with Texas Tech University, will host the 2025 City-Wide Back-2-School Bash on July 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lubbock Memorial Civic Center—over 5,000 K-12 students will receive free backpacks and school supplies on a first-come basis while families can access free haircuts and a resource fair.  KCBD

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Businesses are investing in downtown Lubbock as the square mile has grown from $106 million to $297 million since 2001. Clear Rock Realty and SIMFLO are updating their office spaces and adding workers—leading to plans for new shops and restaurants.  FOX34
  • Short and Sweets Bakery in Lubbock launched a GoFundMe campaign to pay for renovations at its new Cactus Alley Courtyard location so it will reopen in time for its 6-year anniversary—after over a month of closure due to steep, unexpected costs following a change in property ownership.  KLBK
  • Will Harper, managing partner of Stella's, was named Lubbock Restaurateur of the Year by the Texas Restaurant Association—Lubbock Chapter at the Lone Star Bash in Houston on Sunday.   • On Wednesday, DPS arrested Trey Staats, 32, after he fled from a Home Depot theft investigation on 50th Street and struck an officer with his car door during a traffic stop+ Staats now faces multiple charges including Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant and Evading Arrest.  KLBK

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Colonial Revival home in downtown Lubbock, believed to be the third oldest in the city, has been restored for use as a law office while keeping historic design features from its early 1900s use. Local renovators moved the house from its original site and preserved details such as wood flooring and hidden stairs – changes that honor Lubbock’s rich past – as part of a restoration effort.  FOX34

EDUCATION NEWS

  • LUBBOCK — The Lubbock Independent School District will host a School Support and Special Services Job Fair at Monterey High School Cafeteria on Monday, July 28 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. where job seekers can meet hiring teams and learn about available support roles.  KLBK

HEALTH NEWS

  • Covenant Health said Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas has not offered fair payment for care, meaning over 140,000 patients will lose in-network access when the contract expires on July 31. Officials have been negotiating since December 2024—hoping to keep local care available for neighbors if no fair deal is reached.  FOX34

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Pioneer Pocket Hotel building in downtown Lubbock turns 100 and is one of the few pre-World War II survivors; it was once known as Hotel Lubbock and still shows many original details. The 11-story building now hosts themed hotel rooms and leasing offices—preserving a long local legacy.  FOX34
