- ➤ Lubbock Animal Services has announced its 11th annual Clear the Shelters pet adoption event scheduled for August 9 at 3323 SE Loop 289 — the event will offer in-person meet-ups and virtual adoptions via WeRescue — officials say. KLBK
- ➤ Today, CASA of the South Plains launched Heroes for Hope to recruit 50 monthly donors—from $10 up—to support children in foster care in Lubbock. The campaign will use donations to provide therapy, tutoring and safe housing for kids across local counties. KFYO

- ➤ A Lamb County jury sentenced Lorenzo Ramirez to life in prison for continuous child sexual abuse in Littlefield—he was found guilty after a thorough trial. KCBD
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The City of Lubbock and Texas Tech University partnered to host the Back-2-School Bash that provided 5,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to local K-12 students. Mayor Mark McBrayer and Congressman Jodey Arrington said the event also offered free haircuts and vaccination record checks to help children start school ready. FOX34
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Governor Greg Abbott announced that construction has begun on a new $121 million Lubbock Psychiatric Center in southeast Lubbock—this maximum-security facility will offer 50 beds and a team of mental health experts. The center, part of a $2.5 billion state investment, will have enhanced security and is set to be operational by 2027. FOX34
