- ➤ Lubbock High School senior Tenzin Pradhan started his youth-led nonprofit BLESS to help children with neurological disorders and used a $5,000 grant to donate mobility and therapy equipment for an 8-year-old patient at Covenant Outpatient Pediatric Rehab Clinic — he is now planning telehealth services to support the next child in need. - ➤ CASA of the South Plains launched the Heroes for Hope campaign—targeting 50 monthly donors—to support children in foster care with therapy, tutoring and safe homes. The initiative will help kids in Lubbock and nearby counties get the care they need throughout 2025. KKAM

- ➤ Lubbock Fire Rescue said Mindy Villarreal, 33, was arrested and charged with arson after a 911 caller reported smoke from a backyard fire at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the 1300 block of 59th Street—firefighters quickly put out the blaze before it spread. KLBK
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Catholic Charities of Lubbock warned that its Kinship Navigator Program—which supports families caring for children outside of traditional foster care—may lose funding due to exclusion from the latest state legislative budget and is now seeking alternative grants and partnerships. The program, which serves about 200 families each year, will continue its services for now as case managers notify affected families. KLBK
- ➤ TxDOT is running a speed campaign from July 18 to August 3 to slow down traffic and cut crashes on roads. Lubbock local Lanisa Dehn, who lost her 84-year-old mother in a speeding crash, shared her painful story so drivers will drive safe - reducing tragic accidents. KLBK
