  • South Plains Mall in Lubbock will hold a tax free weekend from Aug. 8 through Aug. 10 where most clothes and shoes under $100 are sold with no sales tax and selected school supplies are included. The mall is also hosting its Give Back for Back-to-School drive with The Found Mission to collect uniform items for kids in need + help boost school readiness until Sept. 6.  FOX34
  • On August 2, South Plains Young Marines held a car wash fundraiser at the American Legion on 66th Street from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.—raising funds for their 2026 Orlando trip and helping youth develop teamwork and public speaking skills—while covering travel, lodging, meals, and activity expenses.  KLBK
  • Tomorrow, Lubbock Parks and Recreation will host National Night Out at Rodgers Park—3200 Bates Street starting at 6 p.m. Partners United Supermarkets and Wellpoint will sponsor free live performances, food, a movie, and backpacks with school supplies for families.  KLBK
  • Lubbock native Ferlis Ellis—known as Big E—passed away Saturday after a long battle with cancer. His BBQ restaurant announced his loss on social media following its 21st anniversary celebration, and locals remember him for his passion for great barbecue.  KLBK
  • Travis Manion Foundation will host the 9/11 Heroes Run on Saturday, September 6 at 8 a.m. at Mackenzie Park to honor fallen heroes and support veterans—proceeds will aid veteran empowerment and youth character development.  KLBK
