- ➤ Lubbock Animal Services is hosting its eighth Clear the Shelter event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 3323 SE Loop 289 to promote pet adoptions and raise funds for animal care - all animals are treated, spayed or neutered, and offered for free adoption. KCBD
- ➤ Leonard Farms canceled its regular fall season due to storm damage on June 8 and will not host its usual corn maze and field trips. The farm will open its Haunted Maze on October 11, 18, 25 & 31 from 9 pm to midnight if weather permits. KKAM
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Cars crash into houses at night across nearly every Lubbock neighborhood — with some crashes involving drunk or distracted drivers — and officials say the trend shows a need for improved community safety measures. KKAM
- ➤ On Tuesday, a truck towing a trailer ran a stop sign on US 62-82 in Crosby County at 11:30 a.m. and struck Peggy Appleton’s pickup, causing both vehicles to catch fire—Peggy was pronounced dead and passenger Terry Appleton suffered life-threatening injuries. FOX34

- ➤ Lubbock police arrested two suspects after a routine traffic stop near 2nd and Slide turned into a chase that ended in a crash near 25th and Urbana Ave—no injuries were reported. KCBD
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City manager Jarrett Atkinson said revised property valuation data from LCAD lowered the tax levy by $2 million, canceling Wednesday’s budget hearing and delaying work on the new budget. Council will meet at 2 p.m. today at Citizens Tower to review the revised figures and determine next steps. KCBD
