- ➤ Today, Lubbock veterans honored Lieutenant Colonel George Davis—a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient—by presenting a memorial challenge coin from Friends of the Monument of Courage on National Purple Heart Day. - ➤ Dr. Juan Kurdi, a cardiologist in Lubbock, agreed to pay $1.2 million to settle claims that he broke the Controlled Substance Act by issuing prescriptions for opioids and other drugs outside his normal practice—he said some prescriptions given in the names of family and friends were for his own use but did not admit liability. - ➤ Lubbock saw its monthly sales tax revenue drop by 2.48% from August last year while the state experienced a 5.2% increase.
