CRIME NEWS

  • Wolfforth Police confirmed that 66-year-old Jennifer Treadwell, reported missing Saturday at 10:30 p.m., was found dead on Monday—after a near two-day search that involved dive team efforts at several playa lakes and her husband reported her confusion and health issues.  FOX34
  • After a fight led to 18-year-old Carlos Cruz being shot in the leg at 3:45 a.m. on Sunday near the dam on east Canyon Lakes Dr, Lubbock police arrested more than half a dozen teenagers after a car chase ended near 29th St. and Walnut Ave—officers recovered six guns from the vehicle.  KCBD
  • A 37-year-old Lubbock man was convicted by a federal jury for threatening Secret Service agents and their families online — he will be sentenced on November 6 and could face up to 15 years in federal prison.  KCBD
  • Lubbock police, the county sheriff's department and the West Texas Anti-Gang Unit are searching for 10 armed and dangerous fugitives—among them Brandon Torrez wanted for robbery and Dante Williams sought for probation violations and possession of a weapon—and urge residents to report any sightings.  KKAM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A recent study finds that Lubbock leads Texas cities in clothing spending by ranking eighth in the nation, with Houston at tenth and Amarillo at thirteenth — showing that local shoppers spend a high portion of their income on clothes despite lower earnings.  KKAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tesla has selected Lubbock County to process statewide vehicle titles, which is expected to generate nearly $10 million in sales tax retention as county commissioners approved 10 new employees to clear a backlog of 5,000 transactions. Local officials met with Tesla and its partner Centex Title last week and hope the move will build a long-term business relationship—boosting future economic growth in the community.  KCBD
