CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 23-year-old Lubbock woman, Allison Baiza, was charged with aggravated kidnapping — she faces counts of aggravated assault after forcing her girlfriend into a car with a knife last month near North Lubbock and is held on $45,000 bond at Lubbock County Detention Center. FOX34
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock's new arts venue Made.In.Lubbock opened its doors on Saturday, August 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and featured live music — food trucks, giveaways and handmade art from local artists that celebrated a day of creative community spirit. KFYO

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock ISD earned a higher accountability grade today after the TEA released 2025 ratings and the district moved from a C to a B rating plus showing growth in student achievement, school progress and academic results. Several campuses including Dupre Academy and Lubbock High recorded marked progress in their performance. KCBD
- ➤ The Texas Tech University System manages five public universities that serve tens of thousands of students, faculty, and staff—guiding local education policy and academic decisions. Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
- ➤ Lubbock ISD earned a B rating from the TEA accountability system that tests student achievement, school progress and closing gaps—this change marks a move from a C rating with 63% of students now in A or B campuses. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Lubbock are warned not to flush wipes, grease, medicines or chemicals as they can block plumbing—alternative drop-off sites are available on 84th street, Texas Ave, and at local hazardous waste facilities. - ➤ West Texas State Veterans Cemetery will open December 12th with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. and the first interment for Lubbock veteran George A.
