CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bailey Forrest pleaded guilty to the murder of Robert Stewart—whose body was found in a vehicle on the 2600 block of 45th Street in September 2022—and was sentenced to 20 years while she received 1,051 days of credit, with Lubbock Police also arresting 19-year-old Steven Salazar whose trial is pending. - ➤ TEA Commissioner Mike Morath visited Lubbock ISD’s Wester Elementary on Monday to honor the school’s rise from an F rating in 2019 to an A rating—crediting principal Stacy Hurst and her team for their hard work. - ➤ The FBI, Texas Tech University and Angelo State University signed a historic agreement on Monday in Lubbock to boost national security, cybersecurity and protect important services. - ➤ The city council approved leasing 20 acres at Bill McAlister Park to Lubbock Game Changers so they can build a $51 million youth sports complex that will include six basketball courts, 12 volleyball courts and an 1,800-seat championship arena— the project is expected to draw up to 3,000 visitors each weekend and will be reviewed in two years.
