COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local donors are urged to invest in community projects such as a new public pool, animal spay/neuter programs, and eventually a zoo to benefit Lubbock residents—an approach aimed at addressing delays in public infrastructure.   • Lubbock Animal Services is waiving adoption fees at Petsmart (6801 Slide Road) this Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. All dogs are fully vetted with spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and flea and tick treatments already completed.  KFYO

CRIME NEWS

  • Michael Miller, a 48-year-old Senior Warden at the Wallace Unit, was arrested on August 14th at Walmart on 114th Street and Quaker Ave for tampering with price tags to pay under $5 instead of $137.90 — he was released on bail as TDCJ moves to end his 27-year tenure.  KFYO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 20th, 2025, U.S. District Judge Fred Biery blocked Texas Senate Bill 10 that required public schools to display a specific version of the Ten Commandments—he cited concerns that the law could foster bullying and lack neutrality. Attorney General Ken Paxton is expected to appeal the ruling.  KKAM
  • Crews will seal coat the Spur 327 frontage roads in Lubbock this Sunday, Aug. 24 — motorists should expect lane and ramp closures and are advised to use alternate routes for safety.  FOX34

SPORTS NEWS

  • A Lubbock non-profit group and the city council announced plans for a $50 million indoor sports facility at McAlister Park last week. The arena will feature a unique ASB LumiFLEX court and multiple sports courts — fundraising has begun with early donor commitments secured.  KKAM
