  • Downtown Lubbock's $12.4M park project raised $9M from private donors so it can break ground within 60 days at Broadway and Ave L. The park will include a stage, game zone and food trucks — and it still needs $3M for maintenance.  FOX34

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today, the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce begins its search for a new president and CEO to spearhead several modern projects and expand local business connections. Applications are due by September 15 and the chosen candidate will be announced in November — a move that will build on recent upgrades like the Chamber Co Lab.  KFYO

CRIME NEWS

  • Lubbock father Adam Canales Jr. began his manslaughter trial on Monday after being charged with fatally dosing his 2‐month‐old daughter Athena with allergy medication meant for adults—25‐year‐old Sara Mills is also charged and a jury panel has been selected while both have been out on bond since April.  KKAM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Two years after doctors predicted he would not live long, Hudson Downard is thriving in Lubbock while managing Gould Syndrome—he faces challenges from blindness, cerebral palsy, and seizures that require daily therapy and medication. His family will soon travel to California to meet with specialists and work toward helping him hold his head up and eat on his own.  KCBD
