- ➤ An expert from the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas warned that scammers use high-pressure sales and no contracts after storms to lure homeowners into unrealistic deals—residents should check for proper insurance and a physical address before hiring a contractor. - ➤ A Lubbock man (Adam Canales Jr.) was found guilty of manslaughter on August 28th after his 2-month-old daughter died from a Benadryl overdose (he admitted giving the medicine to make her drowsy). KKAM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sergeant Larry Manale retired from the Lubbock Police Department on Friday after 36 years of service, and Chief Seth Herman honored him for his leadership and humor. He worked in property crimes, forensics, and administration and earned commendations from the FBI and local citizens+ his retirement marks a longstanding commitment to public service in our community. - ➤ Texas is set to adopt more than 800 new laws on Sept. 1 — Gov. Abbott signed over 1,150 bills in the session that include changes in education funding, water projects and public safety, with some measures activating immediately and others set for later dates. These changes cover issues like a school cellphone ban and property tax cuts and will affect many areas of state policy. KCBD
