  • Guinness World Records released a list of 70 records no one has tried, and Lubbock residents can aim for challenges like most high fives in 30 seconds, fastest burrito-making, and most whoopee cushions sat on in one minute. The online Record Selector will help locals pick a challenge—an invitation to make history—while events at Texas Tech and local eateries are planned.  KFYO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lubbock Fire Rescue will conduct live fire training at the airport from Sept. 3 through Sept. 5 with drills running from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily—smoke and flames may be seen by nearby communities.  KCBD
  • Texas Senate lawmaker Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, is expected to be named the next Texas Tech System chancellor soon as the Board of Regents finalizes its search— a statement released Sunday by Chairman Cody Campbell highlighted Creighton's record in higher education and leadership on key reforms. Creighton has served in the Senate and chaired the education committee, which has shaped vital policy changes for Texas colleges.  The Daily Toreader
  • Texas State Senator Brandon Creighton is expected to be named the next Texas Tech University System chancellor by Thursday — he served in the Texas House from 2007 to 2014 and represents Southeast Texas as Dr. Tedd Mitchell plans to retire by year's end.  FOX34
