ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two Lubbock County deputies were hospitalized yesterday after a semitruck struck their patrol unit on Highway 87 while they were helping a stranded motorist—causing heavy traffic delays as emergency crews responded and investigators probed the cause.  KFYO
  • On Monday morning, two Lubbock County sheriff’s deputies were seriously injured in a crash with a semi-truck on I-27 at 98th Street — emergency crews transported the deputies and one other injured person to UMC while setting detours for southbound drivers.  KCBD

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kpop Ramen opened in Lubbock and sold out during its opening weekend as locals ordered a mix of ramen and Korean fried chicken nuggets via dine-in, takeout, and Uber Eats. The restaurant thanked the community on social media and took a day to restock its supplies.  KKAM

CRIME NEWS

  • The Texas Tech Police Department advises riders to check the driver’s identity, verify the car details, and stay in well-lit areas—advice given after multiple reports of sexual assault linked to rideshare drivers near campus. Officer Caitlynn Jeffries adds that riders should keep a charged phone, travel with friends when possible, and cancel rides if they feel unsafe.  KCBD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas Tech University celebrates HSI Week with events that began Monday at Red Raider Plaza (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and continues today with Lotería Night (6 to 7:30 p.m.) at Doak Hall, with additional activities planned through Friday to support Hispanic student success.  The Daily Toreader
  • CASA of the South Plains in Lubbock is asking residents to help foster children face school challenges by volunteering as advocates or donating monthly, with a goal to add 50 new Heroes for Hope by December 31. Last year the organization helped 375 children—89 of whom found permanent homes while volunteers donated over 7,200 hours to support kids adjusting to new schools and homes.  KKAM
