COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Children’s Miracle Network holds its 42nd annual telethon on KCBD to fund the renovation of the neonatal intensive care unit at UMC Children’s Hospital—inviting community members to make Miracle Maker pledges to support new equipment and services.  KCBD
  • The T.J. Patterson Branch Library unveiled a new book vending machine—provided by Atmos Energy and the City of Lubbock—that gives out free books to children who earn tokens through drawings and library events. Three children used the machine at the ribbon cutting, and library officials said it will help families with less access to books.  FOX34
  • On September 8, a serious crash on Highway 87 injured Deputy Cavazos and Deputy Martinez as they helped a stranded motorist and first responders secured the scene. Tindal Design Studio is selling fundraising t-shirts — with all proceeds aiding recovery costs — as the community rallies behind the injured deputies.  KKAM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out at The Shack BBQ in Lubbock but quick action by Lubbock Fire Rescue contained the flames—no one was hurt and the restaurant sustained no damage.  KFYO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lit Brews, a new locally owned coffee shop—blending rich artisan coffee with a cozy bookstore vibe—will open later this month at 3501 50th Street to offer local products to Lubbock residents.  KFYO

CULTURE NEWS

  • After 25 years, a local visitor returned to Texas Tech Museum in Lubbock and found updated exhibits and nostalgic displays that mix childhood memories with modern improvements (better lighting and neat surprises). The museum remains free to the public except on major holidays and stands as a hidden gem for residents and newcomers.  KFYO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas Tech University now enforces Senate Bill 2972 that limits expressive activities on campus—protests, vigils, and flyer distributions must follow set times and designated public spaces. University regents are finalizing guidelines that restrict events from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. and during the last two weeks of classes to maintain order.  KFYO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Lubbock is redesigning its website and asks residents to share feedback through an online survey due by October 1. The city plans to improve site navigation (making it easier to pay bills and access services) so everyone can get information quickly.  KKAM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Griswold, who led the Burn Unit at UMC for 34 years and trained many local surgeons, announced his retirement to spend more time with his family. He said leaving is tough—his lifetime achievement award and the large banner with his image remind him of the strong bonds built with colleagues and patients.  FOX34

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Texas Tech quarterback Jimmy Carmichael, who played the 1973 matchup against Utah, said the 2025 team will surprise people in a historic game this Saturday—he believes both the offense and defense have the potential to push the team toward a top-10 finish.  KCBD
  • Texas Tech unveiled new Patrick Mahomes Adidas uniforms that change the team’s red and black to a white jersey with red, black, and silver accents. The gear will be used in one game on November 8th and fans in Lubbock have welcomed the fresh look.  KKAM
