COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Woodhouse Spa, a Lubbock staple since 2008, will mark its 17th anniversary on October 16 with a public celebration featuring mini spa treatments—local catering and special giveaways complete the event. The spa has provided over 502920 services, created 478 jobs, and donated 277000 to support the community.  KFYO
  • Lubbock leaders volunteered last Friday to deliver hot meals to over a thousand homebound residents—elderly and disabled—using classic cars on 77 routes. The event showed local officials and other volunteers working together to help those on fixed incomes remain independent.  FOX34

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Homeowners in Lubbock may face a fine of up to $500 if they blow grass clippings or leaves onto the street, which is illegal under Texas Health and Safety Code 365.012—local officials enforce the rule to keep streets free of yard waste.  KKAM
  • Lubbock has a strict sign ordinance that sets rules on lighting, size, placement, and even odor to keep the city neat — these rules are meant to help small businesses while huge signs near Jones Stadium spark concerns over favoritism.  KKAM

HEALTH NEWS

  • As school begins in West Texas, Texas Tech Student Health Services gives advice on stopping seasonal sickness by urging students to wash their hands, avoid crowded spaces, and clean shared items — steps to slow the spread of germs.   • Texans can now buy Ivermectin over the counter due to House Bill 25 but Texas Tech Health Sciences Center’s Chief Health Officer Dr. Ron Cook warned that using the drug for unapproved reasons may cause low blood pressure, seizures and even death—so it must be used only as directed.  KCBD
