COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the Panhandle South Plains Fair in Lubbock, local food stands served corn dogs, roasted corn, mini pancakes, and rib dogs on Sept. 23, with vendors from churches and businesses offering a variety of treats. BUSINESS NEWS

  • 7 Brew Coffee, a fast-growing drive-thru chain, will soon open a new shop at 319—323 E. Highway 114 in Levelland to serve customizable drinks like lattes, mochas, and matchas and create about 50 local jobs.  KFYO
  • After nearly a year of vacancy, the former World of Beer in the West End Shopping Center will soon reopen as Raider Tavern, a local bar set to offer drinks and live entertainment. Details on the opening are still pending — locals are eager for a new gathering spot.  KKAM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local middle schoolers attended a Workforce Solutions South Plains event in Plainview where they learned about career paths like law enforcement, health care, cosmetology and automotive services (this is the second career fair this month). Organizers said the event is meant to spark early interest and help students build strong foundations for future careers.  FOX34

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Lubbock City Council approved the first meet and confer agreement with the Lubbock Professional Police Association to boost police recruitment and retention—enhancing lateral hiring by letting experienced officers skip entrance exams—and to formalize Chief Seth Herman’s physical fitness program; the city and LPPA will return to negotiations in the coming weeks to address financial matters.  FOX34

  • Texas Tech Athletics and Dairy Max partnered on a No Mustaches campaign when coach Joey McGuire and players like Jacob Rodriguez appeared in a social media video that celebrates local dairy farmers and the growing NIL movement—Dairy Max’s vice president Will Mallow said the project evolved from a milk machine installation into a broader opportunity for the athletes.  FOX34
  • Matt Williams kicked a 30-yard field goal during halftime in the Texas Tech vs. UMass game on September 20, 2008—impressing coach Mike Leach and earning a walk-on spot on the team.
