ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews responded to a carbon monoxide leak at Hampton Inn & Suites on the 5600 Block of Englewood Avenue, isolating power in the mechanical room and evacuating the building—no injuries were reported.  KCBD
  • Lubbock Fire Department evacuated the Hampton Inn & Suites at the 5600 Block of Englewood Avenue after high carbon monoxide readings were detected in the mechanical room — no injuries were reported as firefighters isolated power and continued ventilating the building.  FOX34

BUSINESS NEWS

  • 88 BaoBao, a new restaurant serving bao buns and Dim Sum, is set to open late this month at 7320 Milwaukee, Ste 100 in the former Chop Chop location—its opening may be delayed as final plans are confirmed. The restaurant will offer a modern, fast casual Chinese menu with high-quality ingredients.  KFYO
  • United Supermarkets in Lubbock now offers free steaming of fresh seafood so shoppers can pick their fish or shellfish and season it to taste for a quick, healthy meal—this service has been a local favorite for over 70 years.  KKAM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Goodwill Industries of Northwest Texas and its Career Resource Center are hosting the Financial Foundations series, a four-week financial literacy program led by Lubbock National Bank—classes begin October 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 6520 University in Lubbock. The weekly two-hour sessions will cover topics such as banking, fraud, credit management and budgeting.  FOX34
  • Today, President Lawrence Schovanec explained Texas Tech’s new five-year plan that will expand student support services, research, creative activities and community outreach in Lubbock—he noted the plan includes boosting the renamed Reese National Security Complex to strengthen defense research.  FOX34

  • Lubbock ISD will host a series of town hall meetings in each voting district to collect community feedback on proposed changes, beginning with District 5 on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Mackenzie Middle School from 5:30-7 p.m. Community members can also complete a survey by Oct. 31 to help guide the district’s resource reallocation.  KCBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Lubbock is asking residents and business owners to complete a survey to update the outdated website—feedback will help shape a new, user-friendly site. The City Council approved the project budget and survey responses will be accepted until October 1.  KKAM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez said his journey from Minnesota and Wichita Falls to becoming a defensive captain has been reshaped by the college's NIL campaign with Dairy Max—helping him visit his wife, a Blackhawk pilot, more often and support his family. He added that the new funds have changed his life and his team by easing travel challenges.  KCBD
