- ➤ Rev. Elliott Powell, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lubbock, served as guest chaplain on Wednesday morning in Washington, D.C., delivering a prayer that called for unity amid political division. Congressman Jodey Arrington invited him and introduced his family—highlighting Lubbock’s strong community ties and the pastor’s significant impact on public service. KKAM
- ➤ The City of Lubbock will host the annual Pumpkin Trail from October 16th through October 19th, where local families will display carved pumpkins in a festive fall event. A pumpkin carving contest is set for October 15th at Hodges Community Center — pumpkins must be dropped off on October 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with registration due by October 12th. KKAM

- ➤ Texas Tech University has rebranded its museum as MaTT—changing its name to reflect a broader range of displays from dinosaur bones to Native American artifacts in the heart of Lubbock. The free museum now hosts rotating exhibits and educational shows for the community. KKAM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock ISD will hold town hall meetings — at five schools across its voting districts — from Sept. 30 to Oct. 28 to get community input on enrollment, student performance and district resources. Superintendent Dr. Kathy Rollo said families, staff and community members may join in person or online and offer feedback through a survey open until Oct. 31. KCBD
- ➤ Judith Johnson, 65, earned her music degree from Texas Tech and became the oldest member of the Goin’ Band from Raiderland—she feels young and will travel with the band to Houston for their next road game—marking a historic milestone in her long journey with music. KCBD
- ➤ Lubbock ISD will hold town hall meetings starting Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Mackenzie Middle School and continuing at other campuses where community members will share input on enrollment, school performance and resources — virtual sessions and an online survey will also be available through Oct. 31. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Lubbock Public Health confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus this year in Lubbock County. Health officials advise residents to use repellant—remove standing water and limit outdoor activity at dawn and dusk—to help prevent mosquito bites. KCBD

- ➤ Texas Tech Men’s Lacrosse club is raising funds to overcome past money issues and get more students to join the game in Lubbock. The student-run team hopes that extra funding—needed for equipment and travel—will help it grow in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association. KCBD
- ➤ Student athletes with special needs from Lubbock ISD and nearby schools competed for gold in bocce ball on Friday as part of Special Olympics Texas. Head of delegations Cheyenne Spell said the event fostered joy and good sportsmanship—each medal celebrated the athletes’ hard work and lasting friendships. FOX34
