  • Four local families got new homes after Habitat for Humanity’s Blitz Build built four houses with help from community volunteers — doubling its goal during a closing ceremony on Saturday.  KCBD
  • The DAR held their annual Clays Burstin’ in Air fundraiser at Hub City Clays on Saturday morning—raising funds for the Good Citizens Scholarship Program that awards scholarships to high school seniors and helps area veterans.  FOX34

CULTURE NEWS

  • Crickets Theater will host a special 50th anniversary celebration of Rocky Horror Picture Show on October 31 with live actors, prop bags and a costume contest at Buddy Holly Hall in Lubbock. Doors will open at 9:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 10:00 p.m.—inviting fans to join in authentic audience participation.  KFYO

  • A Wallethub survey ranked Lubbock 96th among American cities for coffee culture—cheap coffee beans are outweighed by very high cappuccino prices that nearly pushed the city to last place.   • Lubbock area farmers markets offer fresh produce, meats, and artisan goods with live music every Saturday — the busy Wolfforth market at 8924 County Rd 7100 runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., while the smaller Lubbock Downtown market operates from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. from late May to mid-October and the Idalou market welcomes shoppers on the 1st and 3rd Saturday from June to August.  KFYO

  • Runners from across Lubbock joined the 12th Annual Willie McCool Memorial Half Marathon, 5K and 10K at Silent Wings Museum Saturday to honor the local astronaut and runner from Coronado High School. The event also presented the Audrey McCool Volunteer Award in memory of his mother — Audrey, who dedicated many hours to local organizations.  FOX34
