  • Inspections for Food for Thought returned only good news this week as Whataburger at 8226 University, Wiley Old Fashion BBQ at 1924 Avenue AB, Y.O.B. Burgers and Short and Sweets Bakery at 2610 Salem performed well in Lubbock — the inspections reviewed dozens of menus and gave each business top marks.  FOX34

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A deadly crash near Snyder claimed Orlando Tello and left 21-year-old Breanna Flores fighting for her life in the ICU at UMC Lubbock while friends and family organize fundraisers and prayers to support Tello's children—community members have united in response to the tragedy.  KCBD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ramirez Elementary library got a $50,000 makeover under the Extra Yard for Teachers initiative to boost learning for all 500 students—Texas Tech and school officials chose the library as a lasting resource for the entire school.  KCBD
  • Frenship ISD opened a new middle school campus in the former ninth grade learning center with upgrades like a turf football field, fine arts wing and life skills center—modern tools that bring all classes together. The district now uses the old building for teacher training programs to make the best use of its facilities.  FOX34
  • Frenship Middle School moved from its oldest campus to a renovated building that once served ninth grade students—now it features a turf football field, fine arts wing and life skills center to support learning while the old building is used for teacher training programs.  KCBD
  • Yesterday, the Techsan Memorial at Memorial Circle honored late Red Raider Jack Parks and 14 others by reading names and releasing balloons—symbols of their lasting impact on the team. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Abbott directed TxDOT on Oct. 8 to enforce federal road safety guidelines that ban road markings conveying political or ideological messages. Lubbock city officials are now reviewing whether the Buddy Holly crosswalk at 18th Street and Crickets Avenue—updated in 2020 with the artist's iconic glasses—meets the new directive.  Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
  • Today, Lubbock Congressman Jodey Arrington has stopped taking his salary until Congress agrees on a budget—he says federal workers and military personnel should not bear the burden of pay delays. HEALTH NEWS

  • A Frenship Middle School 6th grader collapsed on the track last month and school staff quickly used CPR and an AED—doctors later diagnosed her with a rare heart condition and implanted a device to help control her episodes. The family is now adjusting to a new normal while receiving support from the community as Allie continues her treatment and recovery.  FOX34

  • Locals found that Lubbock’s best fountain drink comes from Headhunters—a headshop known for vapes and smoking accessories that also serves a perfectly balanced Coke with crunchy ice. Customers praise the unique taste and refreshing quality of the drink.  KFYO
