  • The City of Lubbock will host a Halloween trunk or treat event next week at the downtown Municipal Court building at 1214 14th St.—Food trucks will open at 5:30 p.m. and trick or treat will start at 6:30 p.m.  FOX34

CRIME NEWS

  • Lubbock Animal Services warned residents about a new scam targeting animal lovers through Facebook Messenger where fraudsters impersonate agency staff to collect high adoption fees and personal details — the agency reminded people that it never charges more than $30 for pet adoptions.  KKAM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lubbock once hosted its own Big Texan steakhouse from 1974 to 1977 where themed dining and a 72-ounce steak challenge welcomed local football players—management issues forced its closure.  KKAM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CFP Foundation + Texas Tech Athletics unveiled a newly remodeled library at Ramirez Elementary today, providing students with a modern space for reading and learning.  Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
  • Texas Tech is celebrating Homecoming Week with events that honor its old traditions—students like master’s student Sebastian Pasillas say the school feels like home while past Homecoming King Tate Hutchinson and past Homecoming Queen Mckeely Underwood recall special moments such as the Techsan Memorial. FINANCE NEWS

  • Lubbock’s lottery history shows a nearly $17 million jackpot won nearly 30 years ago by Lucky 19 Investment Trust—followed by Emmet Neal’s nearly $11 million win in 1993 that helped him retire and care for his family. Twelve winners have received over $1 million since the Texas Lottery began in November 1992.  KFYO

  • Texas Tech University’s esports program gained momentum as two teams recently represented the Red Raiders at a tournament and now seeks more funding to cover rising league fees—co-captains Zachary Bernius and Brian Rose work to build a lasting legacy with a new gaming lab and ongoing university support.
