  • The South Plains Honor Flight left Lubbock early Saturday and is in Washington, D.C. today visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier— it will arrive back in Lubbock at 7:45 p.m. Monday.  KCBD

  • Founded in 1990 in Lubbock, Bahama Bucks grew from a small shaved ice stand into a nationwide chain offering tropical treats like smoothies, acai bowls, and dirty sodas — its corporate headquarters remains in town to fuel local pride.  KKAM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former Texas Tech law professor Reynaldo 'Rey' Anaya Valencia was invested as the new president and dean of South Texas College of Law Houston on Friday afternoon — the first Hispanic and person of color to hold the post — and he is a Harvard Law School graduate who first taught at Texas Tech at age 25.  FOX34
  • The Texas Tech Alumni Association honored Jim Douglass on Oct. 10 for his over 40 years of service to the alumni network plus his role in growing chapter programs and the Traveling Techsans initiative. The group also presented the Brent Ross Fearless Champion Award to media student Jacob Lujan for his leadership in The Daily Toreador.  KCBD

  • August's Pies has returned to shelves at United Supermarkets in Lubbock after nearly disappearing when Tim Moeller retired—bringing back a local favorite handmade since 1937.
