COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lubbock ISD and Mighty Wash are hosting Wash4Pep Day on Saturday at six local Mighty Wash locations to support Coach Anthony 'Pep' Peppers as he faces ongoing health challenges—Mighty Wash will donate $1 per car wash, $5 per membership purchase, and offer a discounted top wash online. The fundraiser aims to wash 4,000 cars to secure an extra $1,000 bonus if reached.  KCBD

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lubbock residents are invited to craft five-word horror stories for a Halloween challenge that will spur spooky fun—stories will be shared five days a week on Facebook to spark local creativity.  KKAM
  • Today, Lubbock residents can join a Haunted Tour at Texas Tech at 8:00 p.m.—walk-up tickets cost $15 and tours leave every 15 minutes until 11:15 p.m.—while Jurassic Quest and Brick Fest Live offer dinosaur exhibits and LEGO play from Friday through Sunday. Music fans can see Michael W. Smith at Buddy Holly Hall and The Kody Norris Show at Cactus Theater at 7:30 p.m. today.  KCBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The South Plains Association of Governments opened a new facility—located on Indiana Avenue in the South Loop—that now houses all its programs under one roof. The move expands training and event capabilities, as it hosted a homeless consortium meeting and a small business summit to boost regional development.  FOX34

HEALTH NEWS

  • Texas Tech Health Sciences Center is developing a Center for Menopausal Medicine to address women's health concerns and train future care providers. Dr. David Rogers will lead the project and speak at the 'Feed Your Mind—Mind Your Menopause' event on Oct. 30 at Covenant Medical Center to answer questions about menopause symptoms and long-term effects.  FOX34
  • Lubbock health inspectors found moldy food and expired items dating back to July at Texas Trail inside the Stripes on N Frankford—14 violations were noted, including improperly heated fried items and unsanitary storage practices. Most issues were corrected during the inspection while top performers like Tastee Burgers and Five Guys remain in good standing.  FOX34

SPORTS NEWS

  • After heavy summer rains filled local playas, Lubbock hunters have seen waterfowl populations rise and a promising season take shape, with a youth and veteran hunt held on October 11—12 and the regular season opening on October 18. TPWD biologists reported the pintail bag limit increased to three birds per day—hunters are urged to verify permits and stay alert for cold fronts as goose season starts on November 1.  KKAM
  • Texas Tech officials announced a new rule—fans will no longer throw tortillas at football games at Jones AT&T Stadium—after previous tossing led to penalties and fines; the ban will take effect with the home game against Oklahoma State at 3:00 p.m.  KKAM
