COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program now has tags at South Plains Mall and the Salvation Army of Lubbock to help nearly 1,000 local children receive needed items for Christmas. Community members choose a tag—bringing unwrapped gifts such as warm coats or toys to aid families during the holidays.  FOX34
  • Caleb's Closet asked Lubbock residents not to take items from donation bins—misuse of donations hurts families and children in foster care. The charity urged community members to donate properly at Aldersgate Church while keeping items for those in need.  KKAM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lubbock AT&T customers may get checks up to $7,500 from a $177 million settlement over two data breaches that occurred on March 30 and July 12 — claims must be filed by December 18.  KKAM
  • Lubbock banker and attorney Roger Key died at 74. He was a partner at Key, Terrell and Seger LLP and chaired the board of Lubbock National Bank—he also served on the State Bar of Texas’ Board of Directors.  KCBD

CULTURE NEWS

  • Many Lubbock jobs use honest dress codes that favor comfort over formal business wear (teachers choose outfits that let them move easily and oilfield workers require safe, sturdy boots) while the article shows workers often pick hoodies, jeans, and sneakers (a true look at everyday work style).  KKAM
  • George Strait has added a second concert in Lubbock for April 2026 because fans are excited. Both shows will be at Jones AT&T Stadium; the new Friday show (April 24 featuring GRAMMY and CMA Award nominee Zach Top and singer-songwriter Dylan Gossett) joins the Saturday show featuring Miranda Lambert and Hudson Westbrook, and tickets go on sale (November 21).  KKAM
  • Blues-rock guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd will headline a show at The Buddy Holly Hall in Lubbock on June 14, 2026 as part of his 30th Anniversary Tour that honors his debut album Ledbetter Heights. Additional dates have been added across Texas+ New Mexico+ Arizona+ California and tickets for the Lubbock event go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.  KCBD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovenec announced in an email that final exams on Dec. 6 will be shifted to avoid conflicting with the Big 12 Championship game kicking off at 11 a.m. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington — the Office of the Provost will soon provide guidance to instructors.  The Daily Toreader

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Xcel Energy has partnered with Pano AI to install 57 AI-powered cameras in the South Plains and Panhandle to help first responders spot wildfires early. The cameras—mounted on towers to provide a 360 degree view—are part of the Texas System Resiliency Plan, and Xcel will add 68 more units next year.  FOX34

  • Construction crews are closing westbound lanes on US 84 at Loop 289 today for one-day bridge repairs in southeast Lubbock — an exit ramp near Spur 331 will close Wednesday for additional work, and drivers will use detours.  FOX34
