Today, the Lubbock Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit rides five horses—Nellie, Tanner, Jobe, Smokey, and Jiggs—with a team of five officers, a sergeant, and a captain who support area searches and patrol city events.

Each officer also cares for their horse while managing another full-time role in the department.
