- ➤ The Lubbock Downtown Park groundbreaking will be held on December 11 at 2 p.m. at Broadway and Avenue L. The new park will include family zones, art areas and a performance stage to unite the community. KKAM
- ➤ The Lubbock Downtown Park groundbreaking will take place on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. (Broadway and Avenue L) and marks the start of a construction phase expected to last for nine to ten months, featuring family zones, art areas and a performance stage. KFYO
- ➤ The Women of the 100 brought winter gear (hats, gloves, and socks) to students at Anita Carmona-Harrison Elementary and another local school as part of the ongoing Warm and Cozy Drive, which will assist over 1,000 children during cold weather. KCBD
- ➤ The 69th annual Santa Land will open Monday, Dec. 8 at Mackenzie Park and run through Dec. 21 from 6pm to 10pm, offering free entry, holiday displays, live entertainment and photo ops with Santa. Visitors should note that entry is via Canyon Lake Drive from E. Broadway (bridge under construction). KKAM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Texas Tech president Lawrence Schovanec said the recent athletic achievements, including football record setting and national highlights in basketball, golf, track & softball, are boosting enrollment for the university. He expects many registered students to join after orientation as first-year applications jumped 67% and yield increased 18%. FOX34
- ➤ Kam’Ron Williams, a former Wayland football receiver, will walk at Wayland Baptist University to receive his Business Administration degree at 2 p.m. (Dec. 13) after a 2023 car crash fractured his spine and left doctors saying he would never walk again. FOX34

- ➤ A recall is in effect for 1.5 million bags of shredded mozzarella and Parmesan sold at local stores due to possible metal contamination (shoppers should check their lot codes and return any affected products for a refund). KFYO
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Texas Tech football will play in the Big 12 Championship game on Saturday, energizing fans who backed the team for decades (through ups and downs). Former quarterback Rodney Allison and director Robert Giovannetti recalled the hardships and hopeful moments that led to this long-awaited challenge. KCBD
- ➤ Today, Jacob Rodriquez became Texas Tech's first Red Raider to be named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year after a season with five forced fumbles, two recoveries and four interceptions. He will play in the Big 12 Championship game on Saturday at AT&T Stadium against BYU. KKAM
- ➤ USA Boxing National Championships will begin Monday at the Lubbock Civic Center and run through Dec. 13 with over 1,000 boxers, coaches, officials and staff expected to fill the 1,500-seat venue. The event will feature 900 matches and acts as a qualifier for the 2028 Olympics. KCBD
- ➤ Texas Tech Football has risen to #4 in the College Football Playoff rankings and will face BYU Saturday, Dec. 6 at 11:00 a.m. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington; a win will secure them a bye week in the playoffs. KFYO
