  • Atmos Energy is partnering with South Plains Community Action to help customers with overdue gas bills, and an Energy Assistance Blitz will be held tomorrow, Dec. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at local sites where funds will cover past due balances, deposits, and service charges on a first-come, first-serve basis.  KCBD
  • South Plains Food Bank saw a 50 percent increase in people needing food after SNAP delays during a government shutdown and is planning new mobile markets and distribution sites (serving 500-800 cars daily) across Lubbock.  FOX34
  • Feral cats are roaming local alleys as many pet owners fail to spay and neuter their animals. A dedicated local has trapped, fixed, and released hundreds of cats (acting as a one-woman cat SWAT team) while urging neighbors to take preventive measures.  KKAM
  • Today, Ronald McDonald House Charities launched Santa’s Village—a program that lets hospitalized families receive free Christmas presents through community donations, with elves set to deliver gifts on Christmas Eve.  FOX34

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The USDA announced $12 billion in bridge payments to help local farmers, including $11 billion for row crops, with funds set to be available by the end of Feb. 2026.   • Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages awarded South Plains College $100,000 to support 20 first-generation students in a scholarship program — with several recipients from Lubbock. The award aims to boost access to higher education for local students.  FOX34
