- ➤ The Salvation Army is calling on Lubbock residents to help its red kettle campaign as it is nearly 50% behind a $275,000 goal with five days left. Donations fund food + shelter services and support local families during the holidays. FOX34
- ➤ Two Lubbock barbershops team up with Santa to host toy drives for local kids, offering discounted haircuts when customers bring an unwrapped toy. Donations must arrive by today (the deadline) to ensure Santa has gifts for families. FOX34
- ➤ Catholic Charities, TXU Energy and H-E-B joined forces Friday morning to hand out 300 frozen turkeys to families in need in Lubbock. The giveaway comes as food prices have risen nearly three percent over the past year. FOX34

- ➤ MANIA: The ABBA Tribute will light up the Helen DeVitt Jones Theater on Tuesday, Jan. 20 with a two-hour show featuring sparkly costumes and choreographed dance moves — a lively nod to ABBA’s classic hits. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. KFYO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Texas Tech University is expanding its West Texas Mesonet to develop a new state weather prediction system after Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 5 (which allocated $24m for the project). The initiative will add over 40 weather stations across the hill country and has completed stations in Kerr County. KCBD
- ➤ Lubbock ISD is investigating a concern at Monterey High School after a parent raised issues involving a student and a staff member + the district confirmed the staff member is no longer employed and the review is ongoing. KCBD
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Crossroads raised $30,826 during a two-day St. Jude Radiothon that supports critical treatment and care for children through donations from local listeners, sponsors, and businesses. The funds help cover meals, therapy, and other essential services so families can focus on healing rather than finances. KKAM
