- ➤ Lubbock County OEM and West Texas Pathfinders invite amateur radio operators to Winter Field Day, an event to test emergency communications under winter challenges. Scheduled for the last full weekend of January, participants will set up stations using backup power (generators or batteries). KFYO
- ➤ The South Plains Food Bank now has over 4,000 lbs of chicken donated by United Family and Smart Chicken through its annual Smart Giving Program (supporting more than 11,000 families) to provide meals during the holiday season into January. FOX34
- ➤ Tractor Supply Foundation donated $1,000 to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office canine unit in memory of K-9 Arlo, who served four years and died in October. A memorial for him was held earlier this month. FOX34

- ➤ During February, county commissioners approved a $10,000 sponsorship for Buffalo Grass Fest — an event set for next year that will teach local musicians how to promote themselves online. FOX34
- ➤ Families in Lubbock will be able to catch KIDZ BOP LIVE: The Concert Movie in theaters from January 2nd to January 5th, which offers 81 minutes of live performances featuring kid-friendly pop hits + dance moments to kick off the new year with fun. KKAM

- ➤ Texas A&M Forest Service warns that unseasonably warm and dry conditions (along with freeze-cured grasses) could spark wildfires during the holidays. Residents should follow local burn bans and safety guidelines to reduce wildfire risks. KCBD

- ➤ DPS is urging drivers to follow simple safety rules as holiday travel increases, reminding them to check their cars, drive within limits, and buckle up. Their guidance comes ahead of an expected 122.4 million travelers hitting the roads before January 1. FOX34
- ➤ Lubbock's population reached 272,100 in 2025, outpacing Austin with a 1.5% growth rate while the county total hit 332,354. The city shows a diverse mix with an average age around 30 and households earning about $60,487. KKAM
