On July 5, a 17-year-old opened fire at a large gathering in East Lubbock and was fatally shot by police after ignoring commands—five others were injured in the incident.

Police are investigating an overnight shooting near 22nd and Buddy Holly Ave after a bar fight led to gunfire at 2:30 a.m., leaving multiple individuals moderately injured with one man taken to UMC and others treated at Covenant Medical Center.

Texas Tech has acquired a new phenotype machine that monitors plants in real time to record their physical traits and help breed crops with survival traits in extreme environments.
