Lubbock County's election results ran late after a scanner failed at one early voting site

If you went to bed Tuesday without final numbers, here's why. Elections Administrator Troy Havard said a machine malfunction at one early voting location was the first sign of trouble. Workers spotted the error Oct. 22 and replaced the machine, but it happened again. The county's release said the scanner's v-drives were unreadable, so rescanned every paper ballot from that site. Unofficial results came out Wednesday morning.

Once the numbers came in, Lubbock Lights' final unofficial returns showed House Speaker Dustin Burrows winning House District 83 with 73.5%. Rep. Carl Tepper had the closest area race, holding House District 84 with 53.2%. Results stay unofficial until the canvass.
